“Sam Zhuang showcased some great-sounding tube gear for Angelic Sound in room 2200. He distributes the Cen. Grand, Line Magnetic brands and more. The Line Magnetic LM-212 premium single-ended-triode three-box amplifier was being played for the first time at an Australian event, and the ultra-large 212 tubes developed for high-power transoceanic communications are something to behold in person. Also special is the Cen. Grand’s innovative GLD1.0 Deluxe Media Player (the world’s first PCIe-based audio music player designed for consumers), paired with Cen. Grand’s DSDAC1.0 Deluxe-P is synced via optical fibre and a BNC clock for stability and purity.

Driving large Focal Sopra 3 loudspeakers, the combination sounded impressive and worked well within a moderately small room. Streaming from Qobuz, the sound was delicate and smooth with lovely mids, which helped female vocals appear pure and beautiful. The tonal richness of Yo-Yo Ma playing his cello was outstanding. In fact, all natural instruments were reproduced with authentic texture and timbre, as well as tonal integrity. There was a hint of tube warmth, but I found the sound to be uncoloured and neutral, with absolutely no harshness. Big orchestral tracks were reproduced with fullness, dynamics and scale.”
